How can we get outstanding results, and reduce our impact on the environment? My scientists have come up with something called 'Combination technology' – that's how! Find out more in the Development Zone.

Where it all began Close Where it all began The inspiration for our cleaning range was simple – our own families! Our products needed to clean brilliantly and be kind to our children's environment. So we asked a leading environmental consultancy – Environmental Resources Management (ERM) – to help us look at the environmental impacts of our ingredients and our packaging
How we created an eco-conscious formula Close How we created an eco-conscious formula Our scientists put together fantastic formulations using plant-derived cleaning ingredients. As well as making sure our products have a reduced environmental impact, we knew we didn't want to compromise on the performance. So in some instances, we added small amounts of performance-boosting ingredients, such as optical brighteners in our laundry products, at the lowest level needed to give brand-matching performance. We then passed the proposed formulations and packaging materials to ERM, who assessed them for their environmental impact.
Combination technology and how it works Close Combination technology and how it works When deciding which ingredients to use for each product, we found that using small amounts of several ingredients gave us much better cleaning performance, rather than using a lot of one single ingredient. This clever mix of ingredients is what we call 'Combination technology', and when all the ingredients work together, it's what we call a 'Synergy'.
How we make the range kind to the environment Close How we make the range kind to the environment Developing anything from scratch uses a certain amount of resources, so at every stage we tried to minimise the range's environmental impact. We use plant-based ingredients, support the cultivation and production of sustainable palm oil; and our formulations use the smallest amount of each ingredient – without compromising the performance of the product, of course – which means we’re minimising the demands on any one resource. Along with all that, our packaging is lighter, our boxes are made from FSC-certified cardboard, and our bottles are made from 100% recycled plastics – which can be recycled too!
Making recycled packaging that's recyclable too Close Making recycled packaging that's recyclable too Some eco products use plant-based biopolymer bottles, but rather than use extra resources, we wanted to reuse materials already in use. That's why we've chosen 100% recycled bottles, most of which can be recycled again. The only parts we haven't managed to source recycled materials for are the caps and trigger sprays on our bottles, but we’re currently working with a supplier to find a solution!
Deciding what ingredients
to use Close Deciding what ingredients to use Our formulas contain all sorts of natural goodies, including essential oils like citrus, eucalyptus, pine and orange; and also ingredients derived from plants such as corn, wheat, coconut, palm kernel and potatoes – though we wouldn’t actually wash your clothes with potatoes! Where it was essential for performance, we used small amounts of synthetic ingredients. For example, optical brighteners give you gleaming bright whites – which is what you'd expect from your normal non-eco washing powder or liquid – so we added just a little bit to our formulas. We also added small amounts of enzymes in our biological washing powders, as they help to remove starch, protein and fat stains, so it seemed silly not to use a little bit of them. To make sure our laundry products and washing-up liquid smelled really good, we opted for small amounts of synthetic fragrances, which might seem odd, but they are less likely to cause allergic reactions than plant-derived ones.

When it comes down to it, it's you at home who will use our products – so we asked 100 households to try them out! Roll over the + signs to see what some of them said.
